Being Binu in 20 easy steps!

Aarrgghhh!! Ive been tagged… It feels like a ton of bricks on me, the pressure to perform , the feeling of being shackled to say something about a topic, man its scary. This time I have been tagged by none other than Madam Shrutgar (lightning flashes, the owl hoots, wolves howl) so it gets scarier!!

20 things about me??!!! Reminds me of the images of the Kerala Police beating up culprits to pulp saying “Satyam parayeda, nee aara?” (Tell me the truth, who are u? for all the fraudie mallus) Who will be interested in knowing more about me? Trust me, neither am I a super hero nor am I Hannibal Lecter 2, I would say somewhere in between. So don’t expect anything too exciting from this writeup. Anyways here goes:

1. I have a history of nicknames, I was called Aanacheviyan in kindergarten, bunny in school, suppli in college and mallu in IIMC – I guess its something to do with my personality or the fact that the name Binu sucks… but anyways im not complaining!
2. I am the only non doctor in my family – Dad, mom, sis, aliyan – all are docs. This puts me in a very bad situation at the dinner table or during conversations.

Me: “Hi Mom, I think I have a headache.”

Mom: “Well it might be a brain tumor u know”

Aliyan: “ Might be a new strain of Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis virus. Will do an MRI tomorrow

Me: “!!!!!! Forget it guys, bye!”

3. I’ve never been a sports guy. Used to play a bit of basket ball and TT in school but that was it. Fitness isn’t exactly my middle name. I’ve got a good excuse though – flat feet!! However having an International badminton player as my next door neighbor who is hell bent in getting me to shape, is helping me change my physique a wee lil bit.
4. I make friends for a lifetime. I am a kinda guy who doesn’t open up very quickly but once I do that I get really close (which is kinda bad, considering the fact that I have bad breath at times). Anyways this has helped me get thru school, college, work, IIMC and all the highs n lows in life. I get really committed towards a friendship and I expect that commitment in return. I’m quite fortunate to have received that commitment throughout my life from my friends. Thanks a lot guys!
5. I am crazy about cars and about driving. I don’t know how to ride a bike, but I drive cars very well. Whenever I come to trivandrum, dad n mom become pedestrians cuz the corsa is mine.. ALL MINE!!! And to idiots like shrutgar who feel tvm roads suck, wake up girl… it’s a bliss driving in tvm!
6. I have been a fighter all my life, hardwork is something that is in my psyche and I feel that’s gonna take me places. Mayb cuz of that I like people who are fighters – so my fav tennis stars are Sampras and Graf, my fav super hero is Batman and not Superman, my fav cricketer is Dravid n not Sachin.
7. I have had 2 near fatal accidents, once while trying to jump out of a running bus and the other while riding pillion with a friend of mine. Inspite of all this Ive broken my bones just once and that too when a table fell on my foot in the classroom… pretty lucky eh??
8. I hate Friends. Ok ok.. wait I know most of you will want to kill me the next time we meet, but this is a fact. I just hate the rehearsed humor and laughter in the background as multi million dollar actors say some crap and the audience starts laughing. I would prefer Cinemala or Whose Line is it Anyway ? any day!
9. I prefer being a “kuntry bugger” in IIMC lingo. I like talking in mallu, keeping things simple and trying to be as down to earth as possible. I know how to distinguish a red wine and white wine glass, but I’d rather eat with my hands and be as kuntry as possible.
10. Related to this I hate people who are pretentious or are show offs. I try to avoid them as much as possible. I know that it turns off people at times to see me behave in a non pseud fashion, but wat the hell, its my life! (Damn.. 10 more.. shruti, ur gonna get it from me!)
11. I am a huge fan of music right from childhood. Used to sing in my pre teen days, but now my singing is used as a weapon to get people to disperse. Ive been thru the Michael Jackson, Backstreet Boys days. Recently I listen to hard rock and metal – Pink Floyd, Metallica and Iron Maiden are my favs.
12. I am very good on the stage. I can talk crap for hours non stop. Give me a mike and I am at home. I dunno how I got this gift, but talking crap has been my passion since my debating days in school. I remember recently in XLRI, the guy was shooting feedback from participants and he told me to talk as much as I can. He ran out of tape to record me. But when u meet me on a personal basis I don’t talk much. I like listening to people. Many of my friends have told me that I am a good listener.
13. I am a sucker for brands. I know that they don’t mean much other than a word, but I would rather see myself wearing a Levis Jeans and Nike Sneakers. I don’t spend too much for clothes, but whenever I go shopping I buy the best brands.
14. In school I used to play the piano. In fact my uncle had got me one of those teeny weeny Casio Synths and I used to practice on it day and night. I have to admit I was pretty good at it. However the usual stupid excuses of tuitions and studies made me drop the interest
15. I love books which combine fact with fiction. I don’t like fantasy and fairy tales too much. Also I like to finish an entire series of an author before getting into the next one. Michael Crichton is my fav author (no guesses why!). I also HATE “peudo-philosophy” and self help books. So Ayn Rand is crap and Count your chickens before they hatch can be read by losers at IIPM.
16. I cannot handle pressure situations well. I have a very high blood pressure and it runs full steam when things go bad. So if I am in a screwed up situation its best to stay away from me. I have to admit though that I have been working on this and things have improved over the past few years
17. I am not too religious although I am quite spiritual. At times I feel guilty of myself. I shouldve gone to more Sunday School classes and taken things for granted rather than questioning faith and religion. It makes u more confused. But I guess I am the way I am.
18. I hate making enemies or pissing off others. If others want to scream at me or insult me, I am more than willing to listen to their rants and raving rather than creating a conflict with them. I believe its cuz Dad had always taught me that having a bloated ego will do u no good. So go ahead and pull my leg, u can be rest assured that I wont kick u for that ;o)
19. My favorite movie is Forrest Gump. I guess I can identify a lot with Forrest over there :o) and the concept that nice guys get good things in life – aah well maybe too utopian but whats wrong in dreaming?
20. I am a really shameless guy – u want me to strip in the middle of a zillion people just for kicks? Well I can do it… provided im motivated enough ;o) I like speaking my mind or doing what I feel like, cuz I believe that being honest and simple minded in this world is a very rare quality and people really appreciate that!
