The Tree

I know, I know…. Its been a very long time since I last posted on the blog. Its just life has been a muddle these days. Wake up at 1 pm, have lunch, sit in some class, come back to the room, chat with friends, solve some freaking case, submit it before midnight, have a coupla drinks and crash. Ive been goin thru this schedule for quite some time now. Ive decided enuf is enuf…

The blasts in Delhi are hogging my mindspace now. Pahargunj was an area where I used to stay during my summers days. I can imagine what could have happened there. Its so ironic. The entire country assumes that everything is fine and we are moving ahead of the times. India is rocking, India is shining and suddenly such an Incident – a bomb blast, a riot, a murder, reminds us that hey; maybe we have not gotten that far after all.

I was reading the news the other day and what was quite strange was in the world section, on one side was a report on China trying to educate its population to get into the service sector bigtime and just to the side of it was a report on Israel & Palestine – it seems the 2 countries have been fighting over a tree in the Gaza strip. Each claiming that its his land.

Isn’t that the way the world is going these days? On one end you have the countries and organizations that try to build bridges, extol the virtues of the global village and create hope in millions in 3rd world countries like India. On the other end there are those who even now will fight over the tree. Justifying their cause in the name of tradition, values, religion, pride, revenge, call it what you want.

What makes the human race behave in these contrasting ways? How can someone behave so irrationally and risk his life for something so insignificant? The war against terrorism as propounded by the Allied forces is just a lot of Bull Crap. So we can remove that option from our list of possible solutions.

What is required is a deep insight into the way the human mind works. Religious fundamentalism could be instigation, but it can never be the cause.

I think that fundamentally man is unsure of himself. The bible claims that it was God who gave man the option to choose. I am not very sure about that. But if that’s true, then the very option to choose is the root of problems. Well if so then we cant change anything can we? Well I think we can. There is a LOT of difference between making an educated and uneducated choice. The people who went about in Gujarat hacking their neighbours to death BELEIEVED that their blood is different because they are of the opposite religion. Those who put the bomb in Delhi BELIEVED that by killing innocent people and coming in the front page news, their cause would be justified.

Primary education MUST go beyond teaching people to read and write. It must empower them to think on their own and make their own choices and not be blinded and behave like sycophants. Only then can people stop fighting about the tree and build bridges across the world.

Well talking about that choices.. do I go for the next class or not? Hmm.. tough call!!!!

Back in 1 piece!

Ok junta.. thanks a lot for the comments and the once in a while spam by u know who....
Happy Pujo (as the Bongs call it) to ya all.. Hope u all stayed at home, ate lotza crappy junk food, watched lotza TV and generally watched life pass by...

Well not me sir, I went on a trip across north India - travelled in 2nd class sleeper across Bihar & UP (this was a VERY dangerous stunt attempted by highly trained professionals, no matter who u are; NEVER try this at home), partied in MDI Gurgaon for 2 days (free booze, lotza girls and u get paid for talkin trash.. wat more do u want??), travelled to Delhi, rubbed shoulders with the corridors of power and then off we went in search of nirvana to.. the HIMALAYAS.. where else??

Off we went to manali, a group of 4 with absolutely no cash, but lotza dreams and hopes of attaining the ultimate truth. We visited Rohtang Pass, on the Indo-China border at 4000+ meters above sea level where we went crazy due to fresh snowfall. We visited a tibetan monastry, had lunch in a castle and partied all night.

Well I got a coupla exams to write this week, so im not elaborating on the finer aspects of the trip, will do that later over a coupla beers. For the time being.. enjoy these snaps!!
